77 Sunset Strip actor Roger Smith died Sunday at age 84 at LA’s Sherman Oaks hospital battling with a terminal illness.

Agent of widow, actress, entertainer Ann-Margret revealed the new without any mention of cause of death.

Roger Smith was also suffering of nerve disease myasthenia gravis for long. He was diagnosed in 1980 and thereafter left his acting career. Following it he managed his wife’s career and produced several of her television specials.

Smith and Margret celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary very recently on May 8.

The handsome leading man had earlier survived two serious illnesses too.

Margret is his second wife. He has a daughter and two sons from previous marriage.

His first wife was Australian-born actress Victoria Shaw. They married in 1956 and divorced in 1965. He married Margret two years later in 1967.

Roger Smith was born as Roger LaVerne Smith to Dallas and Leone Smith on December 18, 1932, in South Gate, California. As a kid he studied at a stage school and learned dancing, singing and elocution and as an adult he went to University of Arizona at Tucson. He was on a football scholarship there.

Before taking an entry into Hollywood the actor worked at the Naval Reserve. With a chance to meet actor James Cagney he paved his acting career.

His first exposure to the galmor world was with a singing and guitarist career with Ted Mack in TV production Original Amateur Hour in 1948. In 1956 he acted as Richard in Damon Runyon Theater: Hot Oil. With few more he stepped into movies in 1957 acting for Man of a Thousand Faces.
