American teenager becomes the first gold medalist of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. West Virginia University sophomore Ginny Thrasher led by 0.7 points in the women’s air rifle shooting event restricting two Chinese women to claim second and third position.

The 19-year-old is learned to have started shooting just five years ago as a hobby after requesting her father to take her for deer hunting.

Prior to her surprising qualify for the US team at the Olympic Trials the shooter was N.C.A.A. champion.

The second place was reserved by Du Li and the third place was grabbed by favored Yi Siling.

Another shooter from the US could manage to attain the eighth place.

Thrasher will be seen again next Saturday competing in the 50-meter rifle event.
