Bill English To Become Next New Zealand PM

Bill English is emerging to be the next prime minister of New Zealand. Currently he is the finance minister and had earlier was opposition leader.

English became the new name after stepping down of Police Minister Judith Collins and Health Minister Jonathan Coleman from leadership contest.

John Key resigned from prime minister chair on Monday citing personal reason saying he is looking ahead to spend more time with his family. He led the country for eight years and renewal in 2017 was believed to be healthy for his government.

The general election is due in 2017.

Key has endorsed English, who is deputy of the National Party for about a decade.

Key and English helped to steer the economy of agriculture-rich nation out of recession following the financial crisis.

Briefing to the reporters English said, “This has all happened pretty fast… Everyone knows it will work differently than when John Key was in charge… He was a unique politician. I won’t be able to do, and won’t do, it the same way as John.”

Key will be leaving the parliament ahead of the 2017 election and he said the successor would bring their own personality, priorities and emphasis.

Father of six, English first entered parliament in 1990. Between 2001 and 2003 he was leader of the National Party.
