BREAKING: Massive Landslides Kill 250 In Colombia

Devastating mudslides in southern Colombia have killed more than 250 people and injured about 400 others. Hundreds of victims are still missing.

Torrential rains Friday night caused the mudslides as three rivers surrounding Mocoe in Putumayo province overflowed. A state of emergency has been declared.

Aerial footage on news channels showed flattened homs, bridges and highways. Cars and buses are also seen trapped in several feet of mud.

Firefighters said hospital system has been shut down and supplies of water as well as electricity have been cut too.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said the city has received heavy rainfall in one night and disaster on climate change is to be blamed.

He added, “The first thing I want to say is that my heart, our hearts, the hearts of all Colombians are with the victims of this tragedy.”

Colombian Red Cross spokesman Gabriel Umana said two dozen homes have been flattened and 300 families have been displaced.

Witness said a huge storm with lot of water and heavy sound struck the area at around midnight when many was in sound sleep and everyone was shocked.

Over 1,000 soldiers have been deployed in the rescue operation.
