Update: About 250 killed | Google Mexico has initiated a “person finder” to help Mexicans trace missing people

Mexico City has been hit by a massive earthquake of 7.1-magnitude. More than 140 people have been killed and at least half ton buildings have been collapsed, damaging severely school and hospital buildings too.

People ran in panic recollecting the devastating 1985 earthquake on its anniversary, Tuesday, that killed 10,000 people.

About 36 deaths have been recorded in Mexico City, 64 in Morelos and 29 in Puebla.

National Coordinator for Civil Protection Luis Felipe Puente officially announced at least 138 people have been killed so far in the quake.

Just about two weeks before a quake killed 90 people in South Mexico.

A dust-covered Carlos Mendoza, 30, said, “We saw this and came to help… It’s ugly, very ugly.”

The US Geological Survey said the quake hit at 1:14 p.m. (2:15pm EDT) and centered near the Puebla state town of Raboso, about 76 miles (123 kilometers) southeast of the City.

Mexico City being one of the most densely populated cities in the world.
