Conjoined twins in Tanzania are settling their foot into university study after completing their highschool. They have arrived the campus few weeks ahead of the scheduled classes to get habituated with the life there and also take computer lessons.

The 20-year-old Maria and Consolata Mwakikuti are joined at the abdomen. They were abandoned by their mother after the death of their father. Catholic mission adopted the two.

Lately the conjoined twins have become minor celebrities in the country. State media have followed them closely through high school and now have also arrived at the university.

Ruaha Catholic University spokeswoman Mwazarau Mathola said the sisters have arrived a few weeks ahead of the classes to get used to their new life. The classes are scheduled to start from October.

She added, “A separate house has been provided for them, furnished and set up for their needs, because they can’t be housed in normal student accommodation.”

The spokeswoman further continued that a couch too has been installed in the classroom for them to sit comfortably.

Earlier this year the two sisters appealed on state television to the parents not to “hide or lock up their handicapped children”.
