Scientists have lately come up saying empty stomach exercise may promote more favorable changes in body fat.

Ten overweight male volunteers were studied by researchers from University of Bath and all were asked to walk for about one hour on an empty stomach and thereafter two hours of walk after eating high-calorie carbohydrate-rich breakfast.

Blood samples of all the subjects were taken after fasting, after breakfast and after exercise. Scientists also collected adipose tissue samples before and after the walk.

It was found the PDK4 AND HSL genes expressions increased in the fasting samples and those decreased when the men had breakfast and thereafter exercised.

However, it is to note the study was limited to just overweight men.

NetDoctor’s go-to fitness experts Laura Williams said it depends on the workout one is doing and eating becomes necessary if the exercise is intensive and longer as eating will fuel and stop getting light-headed.

She added, “But if you’re plumping for a low intensity workout, that might even be a brisk walk, then you can try it on empty. Just ensure you stop if you feel lightheaded or weak.”

Fitness expert James Farmer said one should not overcomplicate things and paying attention to needs is required.
