Two women from Indonesia and Vietnam have been charged with murder in the assassination of North Korean leader’s Half-Brother Kim Jong Nam. If convicted, both may be hanged in Malaysia.

The 25-year-old mother of one from Jakarta, Siti Aishah, and 28-year-old Doan Thi Huong from rural northern Vietnam however claims they were unaware of the poison in their hand that was smeared on the face of Kim Jong Nam on February 13 at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia believing it was an oil and they were paid for the prank that was supposed to be a footage for a reality TV show.

The estranged half-brother of Kim Jong Un was killed by super-toxic chemical VX and he was killed within 20 minutes while being taken to hospital.

The next court hearing for the two is scheduled to be held on April 13 and prosecutors may appeal to get both the women tried jointly.

Kim Jong Nam had always criticized the regime of his family and also his half-brother Kim Jong Un.

Meanwhile, Indonesia foreign ministry spokesman Armanatha Nasir said the country hopes both the women receive a fair trial.

Nasir added, “We hope that the principle of a defendant being presumed innocent until proven guilty will be adhered to.”
