Meet World’s Second Richest Man – Jeff Bezos

Amazon’s founder and chief executive officer Jeff Bezos is now the second richest person on Earth in Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index. He is now worth about $75.6 billion, more than Berkshire Hathaway Inc.’s Buffett by $700 and founder of Inditex S.A. and Eutope’s richest person Ortega by $1.3 billion.

Buffett is chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway and Ortega is the founder of Zara-owner Inditex.

The 53-year-old added to his wealth $102 billion in 2017 and $7 billion since the beginning of global equities rally after United States presidential election on November 8.

The world’s richest person is still Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates with $86 billion.

Born as Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen on 12 January 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, US, Bezos founded Amazon.com in 1994 and initially setting up it in his garage after learning rapid growth in internet use. He was one of the first investors in Google too and in 1998 invested $250,000. In 1999 he was named as Person of the Year by Time magazine and US News & World Report selected him as one of America’s best leaders in 2008. The Fortune named him as Businessperson of The Year in 2012. Harvard Business Review ranked him as the best CEO in the world in 2014 and had topped the list of Fortune’s list of Fifty great leaders of the world for three straight years in 2015.

Bezos had funded several companies including Airbnb, Aviary, Blue Origin, MFG.com, Nextdoor, Pro.com, Rescale, Skytap, TechStreet, Uber, Workday and ZocDoc.
