More Youths Out Of Job In Namibia: Survey

Namibia is running shortage of jobs. The 2016 saw unemployment on the rise. A report released by Namibia Labour Force Survey reveals the country is facing drop in joblessness.

In 2016 the number of employed people dropped to 135,000 while in 2014 it was 206,000.

The report reveals the sectors which were most hit by unemployment last year were forestry, agriculture and fisheries.

The figures were released by statistician general Alex Shimuafeni in Windhoek on Wednesday. He said the unemployment rates among youths increased by 4.5 percentage points in 2016 from 39 percent in 2014.

He added over 246,000 youths were unemployed in labour force of 570,000 and the female youths joblessness were 140,000 compared to 105,000 males counterpart.

Youth unemployment rates in all the 14 regions were higher than the national unemployment rate of 34%, except in Erongo, where it was 26,3%. //Karas had 30,9%; Omaheke had 32,8%; while Kunene had 63,2% and the Zambezi 60,2%.
