One of the richest women of Mozambique was killed Thursday at home in the capital city Maputo by husband and police have registered a case of domestic violence.

Zofino Muiuane is arrested for the killing of Valentina Guebuza, who was the daughter of ex-President Armando Guebuza, and authorities confirm investigation is in progress to know the motive behind the murder.

Armando ruled Mozambique between 2005 and 2015. During his presidency Valentina became one of the wealthiest businesswomen in the country heading family-owned investment holding company Focus 21 Management & Development. In 2013 she was listed as one of the 20 most powerful women in Africa by Forbes magazine.

Valentina’s company has interests in various sectors including mining and telecommunications. It has also stake in Chinese Pay TV Company StarTimes’ operations in the country.

The two were married in recent years, 2014, at a lavish ceremony attended by some of the well known regional leaders.

Muiuane owns a cell phone company named M-Cel in the country and police has not charged it in the murder case.

The news was shocking to many who were unable to believe domestic violence could take place in a wealthy family too and on top of it they were linked to political party.

People in Mozambique usually don’t hear about domestic violence in wealthy families in the country.

She was born as Valentina da Luz Guebuza was born in 1980, five years after the independence of her country from Portugal. She studied engineering in South Africa and for a brief period also worked in an engineering company. Her father was a former Resistance fighter in the Mozambican subsoil too.
