Munich Teen Attacker Was Mentally Ill, Researched On Rampage Killings

The Munich shopping mall shooter was a mentally troubled man, said German police.

The 18-year-old teenager has researched rampage killings extensively and had not political motivations or else any apparent links to the Islamic State militants group in Syria and Iraq.

Investigators searching his belongings in his home in the southern German city found no references to religion, but several documents on rampage killings.

President of the Bavarian state criminal police office, Rober Heimberger, said a book was found in his home titled “Rampage in My Mind – Why Students Kill.”

According to neighbors the name of the teen was Ali Sonboly. However, the police has not yet named the shooter who had dual German and Iranian nationality.

It is believed the attacker targeted mostly youth in the Munich shopping mall massacre. The victims were as young as 14 years old. A total of nine people were killed and 27 others were injured, including ten still in serious condition.

Police said the teen had undergone medical treatment too for his mental health issues earlier.

Meanwhile, the attack has shocked entire Europe and securities have been stepped up in many cities. Senior German leaders have also called on to have stricter gun laws in the country to limit the access of firearms.
