The cost of being a female consumer is more than being a male consumer across dozens of categories, reveals a study titled “From Cradle to Cane: The Cost of Being a Female Consumer.”

Products Marketed To Female Cost More Than That Of Male- Study

The study was conducted by New York City Department of Consumer Affairs for about 800 products across 35 categories. It was found similar products cost significantly more if marketed to women for example the toys marketed to girls cost 11 percent more than marketed to boys, and baby clothes for girls too cost more than marketed to boys.

According to DCA, children’s clothing for female costs 4 percent more compared to those for males, 8 percent more for adult clothing, 8 percent more for senior or home teeth care products, 13 percent more for personal care products and 7 percent more for toys and accessories.

DCA further added women usually fail to avoid higher prices and this may be one of the reasons why products for females cost more compared to the same products for males.

DCA added, “Over the course of a woman’s life, the financial impact of these gender-based pricing disparities is significant.”
