Rio Pool Color Shift Question Now Has An Official Answer

Now there is an official answer amid speculations for the color shift. it is human error as 160 liters of hydrogen peroxide was dumped into it mistakenly on August 5.

It is learned hydrogen peroxide neutralizes the cholrine and paves way for speedy growth of organic compounds including algae.

However, it is undoubtedly an embarrassing mistake for the Rio Olympics officials.

Rio Games spokesman Mario Andrada said it is an embarrassment for them as they should have fixed the issue quickly.

It is reported the pool is still a dark bottle-green color beside a bluer pool, which was quickly cleared up of the issue. The officials drained out all 3,725,000 liters of water from it and replaced with clear water.

The officials didn’t blame anyone for the issue simply saying hydrogen peroxide was applied by a local pool maintenance worker.

Hydrogen peroxide is used as a pool-cleaning tool, but it should not be combined with chlorine.

Rio Olympics venue director Gustavo Nascimiento said, “The electronic monitoring system that measures the amount of chlorine in the water was betrayed by this chemistry.”
