Yemen is suffering from a cholera epidemic and Saudi Arabia has lately announced to be donating $66.7 million to help fight against the disease.

The country’s crown prince Mohammed bin Salman said Yemen would help the country to effectively fight against the disease through a combination of water, sanitation and healthcare activities.

Cholera is usually caused due to contamination of water or food by faeces and by June 20 some 179,548 cases have been registered with 1,205 deaths.

UN humanitarian chief Stephen O’Brien said the disease is a man-made catastrophe.

Yemen has suffered economic collapsed due to civil war in past two years and about 19 million people are currently in need of humanitarian aid.

The fight in the country has displaced over 3 million people and has killed more than 10,000. Much of the infrastructure has been ruined too.

Nigel Timmins, humanitarian director at aid charity Oxfam, said the governments were stoking the war and not prioritizing humanitarian crisis.

A data of World Health Organization reveals the cholera case is increasing at the rate of 4 percent a day and death count is rising by over 3.5 percent a day.
