Tom Cruise’s Top Gun sequel has been officially announced and it may be titled as Top Gun: Maverick. Paramount Studios announced the release date of July 12, 2019, without mentioning the title, leaving critics to guess whether it may be called as Top Gun 2.

Tom Cruise, 54, had earlier hinted the movie may be dubbed as Top Gun: Maverick saying he don’t need a number and also others may not need the same. If believed to him, the idea of Top Gun 2 title could be discarded.

The actor added further his Top Gun sequel will give the same feel to the fans that was there in 1986. The movie was a massive hit and grabbed $350 million from global box offices.

The other actors included in the original were Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Val Kilmer and Meg Ryan.

In Top Gun: Maverick Cruise will be seen in the role of aviator Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and the movie to feature the modern world drone technology.

The United States Library of Congress selected the classic movie for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2015 for being “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant. Top Gun was part of 24 other films chosen annually.

The new movie will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, who had directed Tom Cruise in Oblivion in 2013.
