The new translation service will only be available on desktop app. A preview of it has been made on Window 8.1 and Windows 10 since December 2014.

Presently Skype will be able to translate only six languages – English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Mandarin Chinese. Apart from this, Skype will also be able to translate 50 additional languages in text messages.

Geekwire writes only one of the speakers in conversation will be able to use the translation capability. The other speaker needs to tap into cloud translation.

As of now there has been no information about whether the service will be made available on Mac and Linux.
