Syrian First Lady Rejected Safe Passage Out

Syrian First Lady Asma al-Assad revealed she had rejected a safe passage out of the country believing the offers were trying to undermine presidency of husband Bashar al-Assad.

However, she refused to reveal who made such offers and also thanked Russia for its efforts in supporting the regime in an interview with Russia state-backed television.

She added talking to Rossiya 24 since beginning she had never thought of being anywhere else.

The First Lady’s social media papers are full of pictures of her meeting orphans and the wounded.

Mrs Asssad said, “Yes I was offered the opportunity to leave Syria or rather to run from Syria. These offers included guarantees of safety and protection for my children and even financial security.”

She added to know what people really were after does not requires a genius brain. The offer was intended to shatter the confidence of people in their president.

Born in London, Mrs Assad is a former investment banker and since 2000 she is the First Lady of Syria following Bashar took over the presidency from father Hafez, who ruled the country since 1971.

Civil war in Syria started in March 2011 when pro-democracy campaigners demanded stepping down of Assad and street protests were repressed violently by the authorities.
