Playa Avellanas

This is located south of Tamarindo, spread with white sand, especially a favorite beach for surfers, locals and those in-the-know. It is a long beach surrounded by mangrove forests with some really good restaurants.

Playa Montezuma

This beach town is located at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula with its own charming individuality. Every year this town is thronged by European backpackers, vegetarian yoga enthusiasts, and even UFO seekers. You can visit the nearby waterfalls and Cabo Blanco and Curu wildlife preserves.

Malpais & Santa Teresa

This is certainly a place for fun lovers with expensive resorts, restaurants, luxury lodges and cabinas. This is also great place to surf but you need to prepare yourself for the crowd. If you want seclusion, you can head farther on down the road to Santa Teresa and beyond.

Punta Uva & Manzanillo

These beaches are located eastern coast of Costa Rica with a strong essence of Caribbean grandeur. There are plenty of natural beauties to relish in these beaches such as turquoise waters, large coral reefs, palm-lined stretches, white sands. Tall coconut trees with serene water, especially appealing for swimmers.

Beaches around Playa Samara

Playa Samara itself a nice beach, but if you move farther away from the beach, you will find some secluded and serene beaches along the entire Guanancaste coast. There are beaches like Playa Carrillo, which is almost deserted throughout the year. Playa Barrigona and Playa Buena Vista are also two hidden beaches nestled down to the north.

Some other important beaches in Costa Rica

Puerto Viejo – A small sleepy beach attracts surfers and backpackers.
Playa Potrero – Surrounded by palm trees, this white sand beach is calm and serene for a laid back attitude.
Playa Avellana – This is called by locals as “Little Hawaii” with astonishing offshore waves, almost reaching up to 18 feet, making it a luring destination of professional surfers.
