In past one year more than a million people have been displaced in Democratic Republic of Congo. Thousands have been killed and dumped too in the displacement crisis.

On the ground, several aid agencies have been deployed, but those are inadequate. Even the money sanction for the region is pitiful.

The primary deadly conflict are is the Kasai region and an emergency $65 million appeal was announced by United Nation’s humanitarian office earlier this year in April, but only $5.2 million was provided.

The conflict reached to a very serious issue getting attention of international community when one Swedish and one American UN experts were abducted and killed in the country. An independent inquiry and greater scrutiny were called by UN.

The Congo crisis started last year when a tribal chieftain Kamwina Nsapu called for an insurgency in the region when government refused to recognize his authority. He demanded his followers to expel all the security forces of the government from Kasai. Tensions were on rise and in a raid he was killed by security forces. His followers thereafter pledged to avenge his death.

The impact also spread to surrounding provinces including Sankuru, Lomami, Kasai Oriental and Kasai.

Norwegian Refugee Council claims about 8,000 people were forced to leave their homes each day and UN says the figure may rise further.
