WhatsApp users should read the updated privacy policy of the platform. A big changed has been made there and it says to be sharing some user data with its parent company Facebook and one of the main purposes for it is to target ads.

WhatsApp To Share User Data With Facebook, Instagram

In a blog post WhatsApp writes, “[B]y coordinating more with Facebook, we’ll be able to do things like track basic metrics about how often people use our services and better fight spam on WhatsApp.”

The blog post further reads with the better friend suggestions of Facebook users may get more relevant ads an ad from one’s ex-company.

It is also learned the WhatsApp data will also be shared family of companies of Facebook and this mean VR firm Oculus Rift and Instagram too will receive those.

The updated Terms And Conditions will share phone numbers of users with which the account has been verified along with the last time the service was used.

However, an opt out option is offered for the ad and product purposes before tapping the ‘I agree’ on WhatsApp’s new T&Cs, but many would not bother doing so and just click okay to it.

The change was not expected from platform like WhatsApp that earlier rolled out end-to-end encryption and has also continued to fight requests from authorities to hand over user data.
