At least fifty people have been gunned down at a gay nightclub in Orlando on Sunday by an American-born man. Authorities say it is the deadliest mass shooting and the worst terror attack since 9/11 in the US.

According to FBI, the 29-year-old Omar Mateen from Fort Pierce in Florida was interviewed in 2013 and 2014 but no gesture of threat was found.

Mateen’s ex-wife said he may have been mentally ill.

At about 2 a.m. he started shooting to people at the jam-packed Pulse club with an assault riffle and a pistol. He was later shot by Orlando police.

After about three hours police had to crash an armored vehicle and stun grenades into the building and killed him.

US official said the man himself called 911 during the attack and pledged allegiance to ISIS.

Orlando Police Chief John Mina said it seems Mateen was organized and well prepared.

No group has yet taken credit of the attack but ISIS has praised it on pro-Islamic State forums.

President Barack Obama said it was an act of terror and hate.

Born as Omar Mir Seddique Mateen in 1966 in New York, the gunman lived in an apartment complex in Fort Pierce, about 120 miles southeast of Orlando, and married in 2009. His wife is originally from Uzbekistan and parents from Afghanistan. In 2011 he filed for divorce.
