A fresh report reveals at least fifty people, including policemen and Pakistan Rangers, were injured during the arrest of ousted Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Punjab province of the country.

The PML-N party workers protested against the arrest of Sharif and his daughter Maryam at several places in Lahore and the province. About 400 of them were detained ahead of the landing of their leader at the airport while returning from London.

The 68-year-old Sharif and his 44-year-old daughter Maryam were arrested on July 13 at the airport in Lahore while returning from London, where Mrs Sharif is undergoing treatment. The two have been found guilty over their family’s ownership of couple of luxury flats in London.

Meanwhile, Sharif’s younger brother and former chief minister of Rawalpindi, Shahbaz Sharif, said the former PM is deprived of bed and even newspaper in the high-security Adiala prison in Rawalpindi.

The president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz added further, “I want to draw your attention to the abysmal conditions under which Main Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, is languishing in the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.”

Apart from this, just ahead of the landing of Sharif and his daughter at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport a photo of the two with Sharif’s ailing wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, struck an emotional chord with many netizens.

In the photo Sharif is seen keeping his hand on Kulsoom’s forehead and Maryam weeping in the backdrop.

The photo was tweeted by a Pakistani journalist and he captioned it as, “This picture will haunt many in the future.”
