Android Creator Andy Rubin Launches High-End Smartphone, Essential Phone

Android creator Andy Rubin has launched his own brand smartphone named Essential Phone. It is a high-end device and priced tagged at $699 in the US market.

Rubin left Google in 2014 and created Playground, a technology investment company. Essential Phone is the first product of it. The device runs on Android operating system.

However, the market is highly competitive and Essential Phone is surely to face tough challenges luring potential customers. The features and specifications of the device is not outstanding to grab attention, but the reputation of Rubin as Android creator may work magic to some extent.

Currently Samsung has 21 percent market share globally and Apple with 14 percent. Couple of Chinese mobile giants are doing well but most of the smaller companies are even below double figure share even after offering much subsidized smartphones.

Addressing to the audience in California the Android creator said there is space for new entry with high-end device in the Android market and Essential Phone is aiming it.

Rubin also added the company will come up with standalone assistant soon similar to the Google’s Home and Amazon’s Alexa.

The new phone is made from titanium and the display has minimal bevel. It is mounted with two magnetic dots in the reverse that is learned to have been designed to make it simple to snap-on accessories.
