Annual Fall Fairs in Southern Ontario

While Southern Ontario is known for its many attractions, especially in the summer season, there are also many fall activities and attractions. A number of communities in Southern Ontario, large and small, hold an annual fall fair providing a midway for both adults and children, games, a petting zoo and shows, Demolition Derby and a variety of other activities.

Fall Fair in Cambridge, Ontario

As one of the oldest such events in Southern Ontario, the Cambridge Fall Fair has been running since 1839. Held in Dickson Park in downtown Galt, the fair takes place in early September on a Thursday to Sunday. Family passes are available for families with a maximum of two adults and three kids.

The midway includes rides such as Full Tilt and Chaos and there is a ‘Carnival of Rock’ on Saturday evening featuring well-known bands. There is also a Demolition Derby held the Friday night, a 4-H Dairy Show and a Horse Show among many other attractions.

New Hamburg Fall Fair

Usually held sometime between late August and mid-September, the New Hamburg Fall Fair also runs Thursday to Sunday and offers a variety of shows for visitors. There are cattle shows, the Invitational Draft Horse Pull and the Draft Horse Show, the Light Horse and Pony Show, Sheep Shows and a Demolition Derby both Friday and Sunday.

Arena events at the New Hamburg Fall Fair include not only a Baby Show and Junior Pet Show, but also a Scavenger Hunt for kids aged five to ten, a Spelling Bee featuring teams of grade five students and an Antique Roadshow where visitors can have their antiques appraised. Visitors can also check out the home crafts in New Hamburg’s Arena, including such goods as baking, arts, crafts, needlework, garden items and photography.

Fall Fair in Fergus, Ontario

The Fergus Fall Fair has been running since 1836. Held in mid-September, the fair operates for three days. Aside from the midway and entertainment tent, there is also a Baby Show, Bicycle Competition, Cattle Show, Dog Show, Light Horse Show and Heavy Horse Show as well as a Peddle Pull.

Visitors can also enjoy the petting zoo and pony rides as well as the Heritage Display where they can learn about community and rural heritage. The Antique and Classic Car Show at the Fergus Fall Fair takes place on Sunday and is open to pre-1980 classic or custom cars, trucks, motorcycles and vintage tractors. There are several door prizes as well!

Milverton Fall Fair

Held on the second weekend after Labour Day, the Milverton Fall Fair features an Exhibit Hall, Royalty Competition and Youth ‘Air Band’ Competition on Friday night. On Saturday, kids can play in the Inflatables Area at the Joust and Rock Climbing Wall or at the Youth Zone which features free activities for kids.

In addition to the kid’s activities, the Milverton Fall Fair hosts a Baby Show and a Mini-Pedal Tractor Pull, a Stock Farm and Antique Tractor Pull, ATV and Lawn Garden Tractor Pulls as well as an Auto Extrication Demonstration put on by the Milverton Fire Department. Also available are a Food Booth and Beer Gardens.

Fall Fair in Stratford, Ontario

Held in late September on Thursday to Sunday at the Stratford Fairgrounds, the Stratford Fall Fair has been in operation since 1842. There is fun for the entire family – everything from children’s activities, entertainment and rides to commercial vendors, music, food and several attractions.

In addition to the child and adult midways, the Stratford Fall Fair offers visitors such activities as the Demolition Derby, a Teen Band Challenge, Tug-o-War, livestock shows and a school fair. Home crafts are on display and there is also a ‘Farm to You’ exhibit featuring a petting zoo.

Southern Ontario Fall Fairs

In addition to Southern Ontario’s strong summer tourist season, there are many activities in the fall season. Several communities of varying size in Southern Ontario are host to fall fairs that provide a fabulous variety of activities for the entire family.
