Barrel Bombing Kills Six Children In Aleppo

An activist group has lately claimed six children among seven were killed in the opposition-held eastern Aleppo in a barrel bombing on Sunday that was launched from helicopters.

The UN Security Council is to meet today at 11 a.m. ET for talks on devastating Syrian government offensive on Aleppo city.

According to opposition the violence in Aleppo has been more intense now following the fall of shaky ceasefire last week. The city has been pummeled by hundreds of airstrikes by Russian backed Syrian government involving ground troops and air power too.

Over 250,000 residents in the opposition-held east of the city are now besieged by the Syrian government forces amid ongoing barrel bombings.

The first major ground advance by the government forces was seen on Saturday after seizing control of the Handarat Palestinian refugee camp in the northeastern outskirts.

UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported the rebels responded by launching a counter-offensive. However, there are some conflicting reports too about the outcome of the combat.

Meanwhile, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the military escalation in Aleppo.
