Belgian transport minister has stepped down after airport security lapse has been revealed in a secret European Union report that led to March 22 suicide bombings by terror group ISIS at Brussels airport and a subway station that killed 32 people and injured many others.

Prime Minister Charles Michel said the minister presented resignation to the king and it was accepted immediately.

The secret report was made public lately by two Belgian opposition parties. It mentioned the flaws in security measures at the Belgium airports and also cited deficiencies in the management of safety checks.

The document was prepared last year but its revelations came after the Brussels attacks that have shaken the government, police and judiciary as well.

Transport Minister Jacqueline Galant said she had not seen the document but the prime minister had discussed a summary of it and was sent to the cabinet last year in June.

No replacement has yet been named but being said would be soon announced.

Meanwhile, the Belgian parliament has also set up an inquiry to look into shortcomings.

Last month the Belgium’s interior and justice ministers too stepped down but their resignations were not accepted.
