A book is a wonderful gift for any child, books help children develop language skills, they open up new worlds and enriched a child’s life. Reading is essential in their education, it can mean the difference between an outstanding student and one that has trouble with school work.

One way we can help our kids to make reading a habit is by finding a character they’ll love. When a child falls in love with a character, she will want to read every book in the series.

The following are charming series books that captivate little girls because they can identify themselves with the characters and the stories.

Charlie and Lola

Written by Lauren Child, Charlie and Lola is a wonderful book series about the relationship between a patient seven year-old brother Charlie, and a curious and sometimes stubborn little sister, Lola. Filled with fun and adventures, Charlie and Lola tells the story of little issues that small children encounter everyday.

Besides reading stories that sound familiar, girls will learn about the importance of being a good sibling.

Some of the tittles for the series are: I Will Not Ever Eat a Tomato, I Can Do Anything That’s Everything All On My Own, I Am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go to Bed, I Want to Be Much More Bigger Like You.

Fancy Nancy Series

Published in 2005 the first book of this series spent nearly 100 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list. Author Jane O’Connor created a charming character with a larger than life personality. Nancy loves everything fancy: boas, tutus, feathers, and tiaras. Even her vocabulary is BIG, she uses words such as ecstatic, ensembles, exhausted, and spectacular.

Nancy is a dramatic and precocious little girl with a flamboyant bedroom inside a very conventional home, and with a very plain family who adores her.

The book is filled with beautiful and colorful pictures that without a doubt contribute its success.

Girls will adore these stories, and they will do it while enriching their vocabulary.

Olivia

Olivia is an energetic and curious little girl-pig who is “very good at wearing people out.” Girls will see themselves in Olivia as she tries on all of her closet, plays with her mother’s make up, fights with her brother, and sings out loud. Parents will smile as they recognize their little girl in Olivia.

Black and white illustrations with hints of red add more fun to the books.
