It was possibly a terror attack. At least a dozen people were killed and many others wounded at a traditional center of holiday festivities in Berlin when a truck plowed through it late Monday at around 8 p.m. near the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.

Police has arrested a man suspecting to be driving the truck stolen from a worksite in Poland, two-hour drive from Berlin. It is not clear whether he is linked with terror group Islamic State.

No group has yet taken credit of the attack, but the incident immediately reminded a similar attack earlier this year in July in Nice, France in which about 100 people were killed during Bastille Day celebrations.

Authorities said more than 45 people were injured in the attack and most of them with severe wounds.

A British tourist Emma Rushton said, “People were sitting holding their heads, there were pools of blood on the floor.”

Chancellor Angela Merkel has been widely criticized in Germany for allowing one million migrants to enter the country and if the fresh attack turns out to have been carried out by one of those, it would be a political crisis for her.

Meanwhile, Germany’s interior minister Thomas de Maiziere refused to use the “attack” word for the incident.

Berlin’s top security official, Andreas Geisel, said the incident could be either attack or accident.
