A top Republican senator earlier considered White House chief of staff John Kelly, then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis guarded United States. Now, all the three have stepped down and within weeks not any one of the three would be left in the Trump administration.

The abrupt resignation of Mattis last week marked end of ‘contain and control’ in the third year of Trump in office. In the US the three were branded as ‘committee to save America’ and ‘axis of adults.’

Following Mattis’ resignation Senator Marco Rubio tweeted, “We are headed toward a series of grave policy errors which will endanger our nation, damage our alliances & empower our adversaries.”

The new era has started showing consequences with Trump not stopping a partial government shutdown and withdrawal announcement of troops from Syria even though Mattis objected it.

The shrunk circle of Trump now is dominated by small cadre family members, loyalists, former GOP lawmakers and ex-Fox News talent.

Some say most ardent supporters of Trump are those who is more in line with his hardline promises. In his resignation letter Mattis said the president deserves such a person near to him whose views are aligned.

It is learned the resignation decision of Mattis was an aftermath of a clash between him and Trump over withdrawing troops from Syria. The split followed a pattern of public breakdowns with advisers.

It is time to see whether the new era committee would be able to save America and bring together the allies.
