Details of the study are published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and it says the researchers followed Google Trends to estimate and examine the rates similar to what was earlier done for influenza rates.

Data from 36 countries were looked into Google search for more than 11-year period. It was found the virus was at peak in spring on global scenario. It was also found the virus was weak in spring season in those countries where vaccines were used.

However, the findings were limited to the countries in temperate regions in which people had enough education and Internet access was available.

Infectious disease expert at Vanderbit University Medical Center, Dr. William Schaffner, said the new study may be useful in those countries where vaccine of chickenpox is not common and also rate of the disease is not tracked.

Schaffner was not involved in the study. He said, “Data can instruct a ministry of health, where they don’t have any idea about chickenpox.”

Even though the data has been collected from the countries with high literacy rate and having access to Internet, but it is true from the finding the chickenpox virus becomes more affective during the spring. Share your views with fellow readers in the below given box.
