Disney May Acquire Twitter

People familiar with the matter said currently the sale process is in early stages and it is yet too early to guarantee if any business house would end up acquiring the struggling social-media service.

Meanwhile, Twitter shares jumped 3.3 percent on Monday to $23.37 further after a huge rise of 21 percent on Friday following the possible acquisition news.

Disney’s stock on the other end has dropped 1.4 percent to $91.96 a share today. It is reported the acquisition would be the company’s biggest technology deal yet. Earlier it invested in Vice, Hulu and some more tech companies.

Twitter recently started streaming sports events online and this may have attracted bidders like Disney, which already owns ESPN sports TV channel.

Earlier this year in August the Burbank, Calif., giant said it is spending $1 billion in BAMTech streaming media company to stream Major League Baseball live streaming on the social platform.

Disney acquired social-gaming company Playdom Inc. in 2010 for $563 million. However, the acquisition was not well-timed.
