Facebook Bans Users Coordinating Private Firearm Sales

The social media giant announced Friday to ban users who are found coordinating private sales of firearms on Facebook and Instagram. However, the licensed gun dealers are not included in the strict action.

Earlier, United States President Barack Obama and the state attorneys general increased pressure on the Menlo Park, Calif., company to take tight related actions.

With this the users of Facebook and mobile app Instagram will not be able to coordinate the private sale of firearms as well as gun parts and its ammunition.

Facebook had earlier too implemented similar restrictions on private sales of marijuana, pharmaceuticals and illegal drugs.

In March 2014 Facebook blocked minors from seeing the posts that indulge sales of firearms.

Prior to 2014 VentureBeat tech website found more and more adults as well as children were connecting on those pages of Facebook which were devoted to buying, selling and trading of guns.

Facebook’s head of product policy Monika Bickert meanwhile said, “Over the last two years, more and more people have been using Facebook to discover products and to buy and sell things to one another. We are continuing to develop, test, and launch new products to make this experience even better for people and are updating our regulated goods policies to reflect this evolution.”
