The demand was for a march in Paris on Thursday amid the Euro football tournament is under way in the country. The Socialist government cites reason a stationary rally would be easier to control instead of the protestors marching in the capital.

Initially it was suggested an alternative and more secured routes would be granted permission for the Union and it would avoid kind of violence and destruction that was witnessed last Tuesday.

Hundreds of masked protesters had then hurled projectiles at police. Dozens of arrests were made.

The Thursday’s march is part of the month long protest and one-day strike to express anger over a bill that makes easier laying off employees and also to weaken the powers of union.

Paris authorities had earlier asked the largest Union, CGT union, to hold a stationary rally, but it is reported to have been refused.

In a released statement the Paris police authority said, “After careful examination, these alternative propositions do not respond in any way to the need to guarantee the security of people and property.”

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said earlier the unrest on June 14 was the result of role of some union activists in deliberate aggression against security forces.
