France is under tight security as the country goes on presidential polls to decide the fate of 11 candidates following the recent terror attack in the capital city Paris in which one policeman was killed.

On Saturday the polling stations were opened in overseas French territories and Sunday morning will begin voting on the mainland.

Political campaigns are banned from Friday midnight and the country will be free of all the convincing speeches and posters until 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Over 50,000 police and gendarmes have been deployed to protect 70,000 polling stations. About 7,000 soldiers too are being seen patroling on the streets across the nation.

In recent years France had been under wave of extremist attacks and considering the latest terror attack on Thursday night security has been tightened.

However, the 48 hours of tightened security won’t change everything, said a retired doctor Marise Moron.

The doctor added, “Terrorism is now an everyday occurrence… It’s permanent, 24 hours a day. So we’re not afraid. If we’re believers in freedom, we must live with it.”

Anne-Marie Redouin, a resident of Paris, said she is not going to be influenced by those terror people who are trying to frighten the nation with attacks.
