Google is partnering with Ford for its driverless cars. The announcement has come days after Ford talked about testing its own self-driving vehicle and starting with early 2016.

Google, Ford Partners For Driverless Cars Project

In the new deal it is yet to understand whether the software powering the cars would be of Google or of Ford.

Since 2010 Google’s self-driving cars have been a sight on the roads of California and so it is doubtless the search giant is ahead of Ford and other car manufacturers in terms of development.

Google has a good knowledge about the software needed in driverless cars but it has no expertise on building cars on massive scale. This may be the reason a partner is required.

Not to forget the recent statement of Google co-founder Sergey Brin that the company would look for partners in creating the vehicles.

However, Ford would not be the only partner of Google in the driverless project. If believed to Yahoo Autos, the deal between the two companies is non-exclusive and this mean more car makers will be looked by Google for partnership.

Well, this is just speculation.

Meanwhile, it is believed Google will be making the software and leaving it to the manufacturers to churn out actual cars.
