Switch Cross-Platform Games

This play is a type of multiplayer support that allows both computers and consoles to play the same game together. So, for example, if you’re playing on a PC and your friends are on consoles, you can all still interact with one another. In addition, you’ll be able to see which platform they’re on to connect with them. The first cross-platform play was available for Rocket League, but more and more developers are introducing cross-platform play with their games.

The process starts by opening your game’s online store page and selecting “Play Cross Platform” when you reach the purchase screen. After that, players can team up or go head-to-head against anyone, regardless of which platform they own. Friends and players on different platforms can enjoy the same great gameplay opportunities, creating new experiences and fun scenarios. You can now play with anyone from the living room couch to the dorm room desk.

Consoles are increasingly more potent as hardware evolves. Utilizing this ability, developers have developed games that run on multiple consoles and allow players to connect between platforms seamlessly without extra purchases or downloads if they live in different regions. In essence, this allows you to get the best of both worlds, both a single-player experience AND a multiplayer experience across all systems simultaneously.

What is Cross-Platform Play?

Switch Cross-platform games when developers allow different platforms to share the same online servers in a game, allowing players to join regardless of their platform. The first instance of cross-platform play occurred on Rocket League in 2015, with Psyonix working closely with Nintendo and Microsoft. They implemented cross-platform play with the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.

In June 2017, Psyonix announced that cross-platform play would come to Rocket League. This feature means that PS4 and PC players can play together on the same servers, but not with Xbox One players due to restrictions; however, Microsoft has said they plan on bringing it back in some form.

Psyonix has confirmed this feature will also be coming to mobile devices, with Google Play supporting crossplay between PC, Android, and iOS devices. At the same time, Steam is only available for PC gamers. However, Psyonix has not confirmed if there are any plans to make an Apple TV version of Rocket League.
