US travelers have been warned Friday to avoid visiting Egypt or Jordan citing terrorist threats.

The citizens are suggested to avoid Western Desert and Sinai Peninsular beyond the resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt and Jordan to be avoided completely.

Very recently ten people including a Canadian tourist was killed in Jordan’s popular tourist destination in Karak and earlier this month more than two dozen were killed in a bombing close to St. Mark’s Coptic Cathedral in Cairo. Responsibilities of both the attacks were taken by Islamic State of Syria and Iraq.

The US State Department added terror organizations in Jordan mostly target tourists from the West and despite heavy security around major tourist sites the attack can take place.

Meanwhile, Egypt has suffered political instability in recent years along with threats of terrorism. The tourism industry has suffered vastly and human rights violations by state have also been accused.

In 2011 Christians were attacked on New Year’s Day by bombing at a church in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria in Egypt. More than twenty people were killed then.

In 2013 churches and Christian property in southern Egypt were targeted too after the ouster of an Islamist president. Brotherhood supporters and ultraorthodox Salafi Muslims were blamed.
