Hot Days To Tripple By 2080 In New York: Study

The National Center for Health Statistics released a data that reveals about 600 people in the city died from heat waves between 2000 and 2006.

The researchers find hot days may reach to triple by 2080 if no steps are taken in reducing the carbon emissions and global warming.

Details of the study are published in the Environmental Health Perspectives journal.

In one another separate study published in the same edition the researchers warn carbon use should be reduced immediately.

Director of the Columbia Center for Children’s Environmental Health at the Mailman School of Public Health, Frederica Perera, said by now everyone knows about the harm from fossil fuel emissions and also people knows how to reduce dependence on such fuels.

Project director at the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University’s Earth Institute, Elisaveta Petkova, said people have lately become resilient to heat and it is not known why.

Petkova added the new study highlights it is important to take proactive measures in minimizing the greenhouse gas emissions.

In recent decades the entire United States has experienced frequent heat waves, reveals a report of National Climate Assessment in 2014.
