How Deadly Was Turkey In 2016 – A Flashback (Part I)

The year 2016 was highly deadly for Turkey including a failed coup in July that killed more than two hundred people. Let’s have a look in detail throughout the year.

Dec. 31, 2016/ Jan 1, 2017 – Istanbul

Gunmen opened fire randomly at crowd in a nightclub during New Year’s Eve celebrations. At least 39 people were killed and 70 others were injured.

Dec. 19 – Ankara

Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov was assassinated by a Turkish riot policeman at a photo exhibition.

Dec. 17 – Kayseri

A police bus carrying off-duty armymen became the target of suicide car bomb. Thirteen soldiers were killed and 56 others were injured.

Dec. 10 – Istanbul

At least 44 people were killed and 149 others were injured in a twin bomb attack outside a soccer stadium.

Nov. 24 – Adana

A government building was targeted by a car bomb killing 2 and injuring 33.

Nov. 4 – Diyarbakir

About one dozen people were killed when a car bomb targeted a riot-police bus.

Oct. 10 – Dicle

Attackers killed a local official of ruling Justice and Development Party at a gas station.

Oct. 9 – Hakkari

A car bomb killed 10 armymen and eight civilians outside a checkpoint.

Oct. 8 – Ankara

There was no casualty when 2 suicide bombers didn’t surrender after urged by police and blew themselves.

Oct. 6 – Istanbul

More than ten people were injured when a motorcycle bomb exploded near a police station.

Sept. 12 – Van

About half ton people were injured outside ruling party’s municipal headquarters in a car bomb.

Aug. 26 – Cizre

About a dozen officers people were killed and 78 others were injured after a Kurdish suicide bomber hit a police checkpoint by an explosives-laden truck.
