Fiction, lies, satire, bombast or whatever you call in relation, such stories sell fast and this is the reason titles like “Hillary Clinton is running a child sex ring from the basement of a pizza parlor” became viral on social media immediately.

Other stories which were most read recently were like “The FBI agent suspected in the Hillary email leaks was found dead in his apartment” and “At Atlanta police officer killed black woman and injured her child after a breast-feeding argument.”

These are the work of creative writers who have made the fake news look authentic to collect cash with each click.

Some claims such fake news have made Donald Trump the winner of the United States presidential election.

However, the era of fake news is not new. Benjamin Franklin used similar fake news way back in 1782 to sway public opinion in England against the crown.

Very recently the Santa Maria Police Department issued a fake news release claiming Jose Santos Melendez and Jose Marino Melendez have been picked up for identity theft and both are handed over to immigration authorities.

A fake page of Moreno Valley Police Department published a fictional story about a mother murdering her three children.
