Jair Bolsonaro vows to end corruption taking oath as Brazil president

Though many in Brazil have been angered by the homophobic, racist and misogynistic remarks, but the new far-right President Jair Bolsonaro used his inaugural speech in the Congress to vow for building a society without discrimination or division on the New Year Day.

The 63-year-old fan of US President Donald Trump said he is seeking a national pact to free the country of crime, economic mismanagement and corruption. He promised to free Brazil of ideology.

The former army captain won the presidential election against the left-wing Fernando Haddad by wide margin.

Without giving up his criticism to leftist politics the president said from today the people of Brazil would be freed from socialism.

Bolsonaro said, “Brazil will return to being a country free of ideological constrictions… I will divide power in a progressive, conscientious and responsible way.”

He pledged support for the police and military saying no society can develop without respecting these agencies.

Talking about economy Bolsonaro said he will create a new virtuous cycle to open markets and there will be several structure reforms under his governance.

He talked about gun control too and said people who are good and without criminal records can own a gun to defend oneself.

Following his oath-taking event outgoing president Michel Temer handed over the presidential sash to him.

US President Trump commended his inaugural ceremony in a tweet that read, “Congratulations to President @JairBolsonaro who just made a great inauguration speech – the U.S.A. is with you!”
