Japan to soon resume commercial whaling. The country has withdrawn itself from international body that regulates whale hunting – International Whaling Commission (IWC).

During a meeting of the IWC in September the Japanese government tried to trigger bringing down ban on commercial whaling. Days later, the Convention on Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) found continued trade in endangered sei whales as illegal in the country.

If Japan resumes commercial whaling it will be a bad news for the planet as whales play important roles in marine ecosystem. It provides up to fifty percent of oxygen, sustain fish stocks, combat climate change and recycle nutrients to surface waters. It is said the whales are gardeners in the ocean for fertilizing the phytoplankton.

These are just some of the good reasons why whales should not be slaughtered for commercial purposes and moreover it is cruel to kill them.

It is never a good science to fire an explosive grenade into a whale.

Not turning to oblivion with the fact that whales are intelligent beings which can feel joy as well as suffer pain.

Similar to human beings the whales too pass on culture through generations, grieve loss of family and friends, engage in play and live in complex social groups.

In the 20th century the population of whales reduced drastically.
