The facility is home to president’s place and is just outside Washington D.C.

After giving an all-clear message later a US defense official said the Malcolm Grow Medical Facility remained on lockdown as second sweep was being conducted out of an abundance of caution.

President Barack Obama was not scheduled to fly on Thursday from the facility on Air Force One. Vice President Joe Biden was to depart for a trip to Ohio in the morning, but delayed and spokesman said he was holding at his official residence in Washington. He was scheduled to attend an event for Gov. Ted Strickland in Columbus.

Base officials said the military installation was to conduct an active shooter exercise when gunman at large was reported at the medical center.

The Maryland State Police, the FBI as well as Prince George’s County police said the incident was a drill.

Earlier this year in May the Joint Base Andrews too was on lockdown following claim of a woman at the visitor center to have a bomb strapped, which was found not true.
