In the report the error rate of AI is mentioned down to about 5.9 percent. It was earlier at 6.3 percent. The human error rate is 5.9 percent.

Microsoft adds the conversational speech recognition system has now exceeded human performance though by just a small margin.

Less than a month ago the company announced the error rate of its AI at 6.3 percent. It also said the error rates of human transcribers can vary between 4.1 percent and 9.6 percent.

The closeness to the human transcription error rate is impressive and its a breakthrough for the company that would have a lasting impact.

The Verge writes citing an official statement by the company that they had reached human parity and the improvement is historic achievement.

Microsoft claims such parity has been achieved by optimizing convolutional and recurrent neural networks and the AI system was trained on 2,000 hours of data.

In recent months AI has been a focus for the company and lately CEO Satya Nadella laid out their four pillars for democratizing AI.

Nadella said Azure cloud platform is becoming the first AI supercomputer.
