Mosque, Conference Center In German Dresden City Attacked By Homemade Bombs

The Dresden city in Germany rocked after two bomb attacks occured Monday evening on a mosque and a conference center. No injuries were reported and security has been stepped up.

The blasts were from homemade devices and took place just ahead of German Unity Day celebrations that is scheduled to be held next weekend.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is said to be one of the attendees of the celebrations that marks 26th anniversary of the reunification of East and West Germany.

However, International Congress Center is cordoned today following the attack. Part of the celebrations was set to be held here.

The first blasts occurred at the mosque and within minutes the second explosion was heard at the International Congress Center.

Surveillance has been increased in all the Muslim institutions in the city.

No group has yet taken responsibility of the attacks and it is not clear too who is behind the two blasts. As of now it is being considered a xenophobic motive.

The Horst Kretzschmar Dresden’s police chief said police is on high alert in the city.
