Pakistan is a conservative Muslim country and every year about 1,000 women are put to death in so-called honor killings.

According to police, the 17-year-old Zeenat Rafiq was tied to a cot and was drenched with kerosene in the eastern city of Lahore. Neighbors came running after hearing screams, but the family members put them away from entering.

Until now police has arrested the mother Parveen finding charred body near a staircase after arriving getting information.

Husband of the girl, Hassan Khan, said the two were in love since school days but their marriage proposals were rejected repeatedly. This forcecd them to elope and marry last month.

Police said the mother has confessed to killing with the help of her son Ahmar. The body showed sign of strangulation and beating too.

Sex outside of marriage is like a stain on the honor on the family in Pakistan and it can only be removed by killing.

Couple of days ago a schoolteacher Maria Bibi too was burned alive by group of men for refusing marriage proposal to the father of the man. Four people were arrested in connection.
