The newly sworn-in prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, and his cabinet have decided to place Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam on the Exit Control List. This mean the two cannot leave the country. It is a prevention measure to bar fleeing Pakistan.

Khan and his new cabinet discussed on several issues and challenges in the first meeting on Monday and barring Sharif and Maryam is a part of anti-corruption drive of the newly formed government.

Law and interior ministries have been asked by the Khan-led government to implement red warrants against Sharif’s sons, Hassan and Hussain, and former finance minister Ishaq Dar too. Both are currently not in Pakistan and efforts should made to bring them back as they are named in corruption cases that have been filed by National Accountability Bureau.

Sharif family owns Avenfield properties in London and the government has directed law ministry to contact the British government. According to anti-corruption court of Pakistan the Sharif family has bought the four posh flats through money laundering.

The former PM, 68, has been found guilty in corruption cases and has been sentenced a total of 11 years in prison. His 44-year-old daughter has been sentenced for eight years. Both are currently in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

Sharif’s wife Kulsoom is in a London hospital, battling throat cancer.

Meanwhile, it is learned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s government did not discuss about former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf in the first cabinet meeting.
