Media report reveals former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif could be shifted to a hospital from the jail as he is on the verge of kidney failure. Since July 13 he is in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi serving a 10-year prison term after being convicted on corruption charges over purchase of luxury apartments in London.

Medical report recommending immediate shift of the 68-year-old to a hospital has been sent to Punjab Health Secretary for consideration. Sharif complained about his health on Saturday.

The report was prepared after a medical check-up by a team of doctors from Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC), headed by its Chief Executive Major General (retd) Dr Azhar Mehmood Kayani.

The team of doctors from RIC spent more than an hour to inspect Sharif’s condition. They were called by jail administration even though Sharif’s personal physician Dr. Adnan had seen him twice lately.

Water levels in Sharif’s body are very low and this has resulted with erratic heartbeat. Urea amount in Sharif’s blood is very high and this may lead to kidney failure, reveals medical board with recommendation he should be shifted to hospital immediately.

Sources from Punjab Prisons reveal order from Punjab home department is being awaited. Meanwhile, it is learned the caretaker government is in touch with jail authorities and better medical facilities are being provided to Sharif.
