A former Muslim preacher in Nigeria with 130 wives and 2013 children dies at the age of 93 from an unknown illness on Saturday and large crowds turned out for his funeral the next day.

Nigerian Islamic Preacher Mohammed Bello Abubakar

Mohammed Bello Abubakar died at his home in Bida of Niger State, confirmed his personal assistant Mutairu Salawudeen Bello. He has left behind some pregnant wives too.

In 2008 the Muslic cleric was widely criticized by other Muslim preachers for divorcing 82 wives out of 86 then within 48 hours.

People criticized him for the sheer number of wives and kids he had, but Bello felt it was his divine mission to make babies and control so many wives.

It is believed he was a healer and had direct link with Prophet Mohammad. Several of his wives initially came to the preacher in need of healing and couldn’t refuse his proposal of marriage as thought to be a command from God.

Even though he was a good father and a good husband, but he never recommended others to try having so many wives and so many kids as he did. He believed to have a responsibility of doing so as it was God’s special mission for him.

Talking to BBC earlier he said, “A man with 10 wives would collapse and die, but my own power is given by Allah. That is why I have been able to control 86 of them.”

The preacher was from Central Niger State and was buried on Sunday in Nigeria. Huge crowds gathered at his funeral.
